NextImg:Stephen Amell to star in ‘Suits’ spinoff ‘Suits L.A.’

Get excited, Suits fans! The hit legal drama’s upcoming spinoff has cast its star.

Stephen Amell has officially joined the cast of Suits L.A., the new project once again helmed by Aaron Korsh, per Deadline. According to the outlet, NBCUniversal secured the show’s pilot at the beginning of February, which is set to be directed by Victoria Mahoney.

Amid the original show’s surge in popularity, members of the original Suits cast have made headlines for recent reunions, such as at this year’s Golden Globes and in an e.l.f. Cosmetics Super Bowl commercial with fellow TV courtroom icon, Judge Judy. However, one star has notably been missing from said reunions: Meghan Markle.

Her Suits co-star Gina Torres told Variety on the Golden Globes red carpet that she and her fellow cast members “don’t have her number” when asked if anyone had reached out to her.

Nonetheless, Markle has expressed how in awe she has been over the show’s resurgence, noting that “it was great to work on” with “such a great cast and crew” while speaking with Variety last November.

As for the new Suits spinoff, fans are buzzing about this casting news and what lies ahead for the new TV show.

Many may recognize Stephen Amell from his time playing Oliver Queen/ Green Arrow on Arrow, per IMDb. Some recent, notable work of his includes his recent portrayal of Jack Spade in Heels, and starring alongside his cousin and fellow actor Robbie Amell in Code 8, which is being followed by Code 8: Part II that hits Netflix on Feb. 28.

Amell has been cast as Ted Black, who is “a charismatic force of nature who puts his own needs above others,” per NBC.com. Ted is also “a former New York prosecutor who joined forces 15 years ago with his old buddy, Stuart Lane, to build an L.A. law firm that specializes in criminal and entertainment law.”

The outlet also reports that the show’s logline goes as follows:

“[Ted’s] firm is at a crisis point, and in order to survive he must embrace a role he held in contempt his entire career. Ted is surrounded by a stellar group of characters who test their loyalties to both Ted and each other while they can’t help but mix their personal and professional lives. All of this is going on while events from years ago slowly unravel that led Ted to leave behind everything and everyone he loved.”

While speaking with People, Amell said he’s “very excited” about taking on the part, noting that it’s “something very new and different” for him.

No release date has been announced. However, production is slated to begin in Vancouver next month, per Deadline.
