Stefon Diggs has an interesting theory about a factor that caused his production to plummet in the second half of last season.
In an interview with GQ, it was noted that Diggs, who was traded from the Bills to the Texans this past offseason. had over 100 yards receiving in five of Buffalo’s first six games in 2023, but failed to hit that milestone the rest of the season.
According to the story’s author Clay Skipper, Diggs “specifically highlight[ed]” that the decline came when the Bills had decided they were moving on from offensive coordinator Ken Dorsey.
“The games looked a lot different,” Diggs said. “You can blame me. I don’t mind blaming me. I got big-ass shoulders. But pay attention, pay real close attention. Watch the game. Of course there’s plenty of plays I want back. But there’s a lot of plays that didn’t go my way.
“I need a lot of things to go right to get the ball…. You can’t roll out of bed and get 800 yards in the first eight games. Your best receiver’s doing that. You tell me about the last 10. What changed? Were there changes going on? I just pay attention to what really happened and not what people try to act like happened. Like, for the last 10 games, I forgot how to f–king play football?”
Diggs acknowledged that he wasn’t in a great mental headspace during the season.
“Last year, I was in the worst mental space I’ve been in since I’ve been in the league,” Diggs said. “If I’m not in a good space, obviously that’s not the best for me. So that’s when things had to start shaking out.”
Earlier in the interview, Diggs had been seeking to be diplomatic abvout his exit from Buffalo.
“If I feel targeted or I feel somebody’s saying something that’s wrong, can I say something? Yes. Will I say something? No. For what? I don’t gain nothing from it. None of these people sign any check of mine,” Diggs said.
“There’s some things that happened in Minnesota that I never shared, that I won’t share. Because I’m a professional. I believe in professionalism. You don’t gotta talk bad about your ex-girlfriend to your new girlfriend.”
Things have gotten off to a positive start in Houston for Diggs, as it was announced Tuesday that he was voted a team captain.
