NextImg:Steelers offensive coordinator Matt Canada suspected of having burner account

Matt Canada has something in common with an AFC North rival.

The embattled Steelers offensive coordinator, 51, is being accused by fans of having a burner account, with one Pittsburgh-centric page going to great lengths to put the theory to the test.

On Tuesday, the X account @PickensBurgh posted a video featuring messages from a user called @DannyFootball77, who isn’t following anyone and posted positive thoughts on Canada as he continues to draw the ire of the fanbase.

“Steeler Nation found a new scapegoat. Wonder how long it’ll be until the next guy is on the hot seat,” @DannyFootball77 wrote in one message.

Another post said: “So the o line is an excuse for [Steelers quarterback] Kenny’s [Pickett] struggles but the OC is expected to turn water into wine. Makes sense.”

Later in the day Tuesday, a separate X user, @PPP_Benjamin, took the investigation a step further by going through the forgot password process on the social media platform for @DannyFootball77, which elicited curious results.

“I went through the ‘forgot password’ process for the account, and just look at the email address associated with it…,” @PPP_Benjamin wrote alongside a screenshot of his findings, “ma************@s*******.***.”

However, Pro Football Talk shot down those rumors.

“To everyone pushing the “Matt Canada burner account” bulls–t, the Steelers use “steelers.nfl.com” not “steelers.com” for their internal email addresses,” the account posted on X.

The rumors surrounding Canada follow what was a disheartening loss for the Steelers on Sunday, when they fell to the Texans, 30-6, and failed to score a touchdown.

When asked Tuesday “if there would be a change to division of labor among coaching responsibilities — especially as it pertains to playcalling” by ESPN’s Brooke Pryor, who covers the Steelers, Tomlin responded: “Not at this juncture.”

However, Tomlin did say the offensive coaching in Sunday’s loss was “not good enough.”

Canada joined the Steelers as the quarterbacks coach in 2020 and was elevated to offensive coordinator the following year.

Speculation surrounding burner accounts is a commonality in the AFC North, as Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson was accused of having a similar account last month amid struggles.

The Steelers are 2-2 entering Week 5 and will face the AFC North-leading Ravens on Sunday.
