“Like [predecessor] Joe Lapchick used to say and said after the last NIT win [in 1965], ‘Today you walked with kings,’ ” Carnesecca said that night. “And today these fellas walked with kings.’’

Just three times had St. John’s walked with kings at the end of the Big East Conference Tournament, and Saturday night against Creighton at the Garden, Rick Pitino was driven to have his No. 1 seed Red Storm walking with kings again for the first time since 2000.
