There was a squirrel delay in The Bronx.

Midway through the fourth inning of the Yankees’ game against the Red Sox on Friday, a squirrel darted across the field, causing a brief interruption in play.

The Yankees’ broadcasting booth first noticed the squirrel when it ran into Red Sox outfielder Jhostynxon Garcia while he was at the plate.

“Wow, he just ran into Garcia’s foot,” Yankees announcer Michael Kay said on the broadcast. “Now he’s checking out [Max] Fried, and the hole that Fried lands in.”

Fried, who started Friday’s game for the Yankees, did not appear too pleased that the squirrel was circling around the mound midway through the at bat against Garcia.

The squirrel then made its way away from the mound and towards the infield dirt where it briefly stayed until it eventually found its way off the diamond.

“Didn’t this once give the Yankees luck — they nicknamed it Scooter or something,” Kay added.

Although squirrels have made their way into Yankee Stadium multiple times over the years, Kay was referring to a squirrel who appeared on the right field foul pole during the 2007 season.

That squirrel, who was seen in September 2007, was given the nickname “Scooter” by the fans for Yankees Hall-of-Fame shortstop Phil Rizzuto, who died the month prior.

A squirrel was also spotted at Yankee Stadium during a game against the Orioles two seasons ago, which gave some fans a fright as it nearly jumped into the stands at first.

“Look at the faces on the fans,” Kay said then.

“He sticks the landing much better than we would, I’ll tell you that,” said broadcast partner Paul O’Neill as the squirrel made a daring jump.
