The New Orleans Pelicans host the San Antonio Spurs on Tuesday, two days after the teams just met on the same court.
A few years ago, the NBA implemented this type of two-game series to reduce travel and total miles flown.
I have spoken to oddsmakers and professional bettors to unlock strong betting angles or trends, but to no avail. The sample size is still fairly small, and other variables often change in the form of players skipping one of the games.
However, I am still playing De’Aaron Fox Over his prop of 4.5 rebounds (-145, BetMGM), as I hope to build on my 28-14 ATS record in The Post’s sports section.
Not only did Fox grab seven boards Sunday, but he has surpassed his prop in all three games since the team announced Victor Wembanyama will miss the rest of the season.
This is San Antonio’s new reality. Its 7-foot-3 unicorn’s absence has created rebounding opportunities for others.
Fox has traditionally found his way into rebounds, so this is not a big adjustment. In fact, he was regularly cashing the Under since joining the Spurs because of Wembanyama’s prowess.
Team | Spread | Moneyline | Total |
---|---|---|---|
Spurs | +3 (-110) | +125 | o239.5 (-110) |
Pelicans | -3 (-110) | -150 | u239.5 (-110) |
On top of the big man’s absence, this matchup lends itself to being a game involving several shot attempts. The Over/Under is lined at 239.5 points, after the teams combined for 84 3-point attempts, which is above average in today’s NBA.
I do have some apprehension because of Sunday’s unique game script. The Spurs led by 13 points at halftime before losing by 18 points.
Additionally, Fox grabbed just two rebounds in the second half, so perhaps that is more indicative of this matchup.
Nonetheless, I have to trust the simple logic of losing a guy that was averaging 11.0 rebounds and running away with the Defensive Player of the Year award.
PICK: De’Aaron Fox Over 4.5 rebounds (-145, BetMGM)
