The Spurs are considering a new Twin Towers.
NBA insider Jake Fischer reported Tuesday that San Antonio has “held some exploratory talks” about Celtics center Kristaps Porzingis.
The 7-foot-2 Porzingis would slot in next to the 7-foot-3 superstar Victor Wembanyama, mirroring the big main pairing of David Robinson and Tim Duncan the Spurs employed more than two decades ago.
The Suns have also expressed interest in Porzingis, Fischer reported.
The latest rumor comes a day after Boston traded Jrue Holiday to the Trail Blazers in exchange for Anfernee Simons and two second-round draft picks, breaking up the franchise’s championship core from a year ago.
The Celtics are expected to continue to shed salary as they look to get their payroll under the second apron, saving them tens of millions of dollars.
San Antonio is apparently still looking to add after trading for former All-Star guard De’Aaron Fox at last season’s NBA trade deadline.
The Spurs had been one of the teams on Kevin Durant’s list before the future Hall of Famer was traded to the Rockets for Jalen Green, Dillon Brooks, the No. 10 pick in this week’s draft and five second-round picks.

Porzingis, 29, could be seen as San Antonio’s backup plan as they look to make the postseason for the first time in the Wembanyama era.
When on the court, Porzingis is one of the most effective big men in the NBA.
In 42 games last year, he averaged 19.5 points, 6.8 rebounds and 1.5 blocks on 48.3 percent shooting overall and 41.2 percent from deep.
But injuries have hampered him throughout his career, having played more than 60 games in a season just twice over 10 years in the league.
The Spurs hold the No. 2 pick in Wednesday’s NBA draft and are expected to select Rutgers guard Dylan Harper.
