NextImg:Spurs end mystery and measure Victor Wembanyama’s official height

One of the NBA’s newest mysteries has been solved.

After Victor Wembanyama was selected first overall by the San Antonio Spurs, there was some confusion over how tall the game-changing prospect actually was.

Various outlets listed Wembanyama between 7-foot-2 and 7-5, and there was seemingly no consensus.

The NBA listed him at 7-4 in the league’s draft media guide, while Wembanyama recently told an elementary school student that he was 7-3.

But the official ruling is in, and it lists Wembanyama at 7-3½, the Spurs confirmed, according to the Associated Press.

He was measured by the Spurs after arriving in San Antonio over the weekend without shoes on, per NBA guidelines, the AP reported.

Wembanyama will be the second tallest player in the NBA next season, behind just Boban Marjanović, who is listed by the league at 7-4.

Wembanyama was not at the draft combine in May because his French team, Mets 92, was still playing, which meant there was no official measurement from the NBA.

The Spurs reportedly listed Wembanyama’s height at 7-3 1/2.

Every other player at the combine was measured, and if Wembanyama had been there, would have been the tallest.

Zach Edey from Purdue just missed reaching Wembanyama’s height, coming in at  7-3¼ when he was measured at the combine.

Even before the No. 1 overall pick was officially measured, Wembanyama was towering over everyone in his new city when he landed in San Antonio last week.

Wembanyama was the No. 1 pick in the 2023 NBA Draft.

On the court, the Spurs will compete in the California Classic Summer League next week, but Wembanyama will not participate.

But he is set to make his debut in the NBA 2K24 Summer League in Las Vegas, and Wembanyama will get an early chance to face the other top three picks in this year’s draft.

The Spurs face No. 2 overall pick Brandon Miller and the Charlotte Hornets to open the Summer League and then take on No. 3 pick Scoot Henderson and the Portland Trail Blazers.
