Football fans and media reacted in shock and bewilderment after Eagles defensive tackle Jalen Carter got booted from the season opener six seconds into the game for spitting on Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott.
The bizarre decision by Carter was made even more peculiar by the fact that he did it right in front of the referee.
The reaction on social media came quickly from fans and media personalities, with Stephen A. Smith blasting Carter on X.
“WTH did I just see? Jalen Carter — the Best Players on the @Eagles defense — just got thrown out the game before a freakin snap for SPITTING….SPITTING on @dak,” he wrote on X. “To hell with just an ejection. Suspend that man. How in the HELL could you do something like that? Inexcusable! Stupid! Selfish! #Damn!”
Warren Sharp described the move as “total trash” and former NFL quarterback Chase Daniel said there was “no room for that.”

“There is no excusing or rationalizing this. You absolutely do not do this. Jalen Carter will be subject to a hefty fine by the league next week,” NFL on CBS’ Jonathan Jones wrote on X.
New York City FC and Jets Spanish-language radio broadcaster wrote on X, “WTH Jalen Carter!” along with a Hawk Tuah girl gif.
Sports media personality Pat McAfee wrote “Wowwwwwwwww” on social media as part of his reaction.
“How dumb can you be? Spitting on another player directly in front of the official before the game even starts??? Jalen Carter WTF,” CJ Fogler wrote along with a video of the incident.
There were plenty of fans who posted the gifs of the Hawk Tuah girl and fantasy sports analyst Jeff Ratcliffe made a joke about it on social media that referenced the “Magic Loogie” Incident from the “Seinfeld” episode that featured Mets great Keith Hernandez.
“It wasn’t just Jalen Carter. There was a second spitter on the gravelly road,” he wrote.
The Eagles and Cowboys were tied at seven at the end of the first quarter.
