Sometimes you have to quit while you’re ahead.
A Barstool Sportsbook bettor walked away with potentially life-changing money when they cashed out early on a wild four-leg, three-sport parlay.
The parlay included a $41.75 bet on the total of a mid-April Orioles-Nationals game, the outcome of a tennis match between Patrick Kypson and Zizou Bergs and two long shot championship bets: the Florida Panthers to win the Stanley Cup and the Miami Heat to win the NBA Finals.
The parlay was apparently placed as the eighth-seeded Heat and Panthers were amid their improbable takedown of the No. 1 seed Milwaukee Bucks and Boston Bruins in the first round of the NBA and NHL playoffs.
More than $70,000 is nothing to sniff at, but if the parlay hit, it could have paid out a mind-boggling $763,876.58.
But the bettor took the sure money, and if oddsmakers are (finally) right about these two South Florida teams, they may have made the right choice.
The Nuggets and Heat are tied at one game apiece heading into Wednesday night’s contest in Miami, but Denver is still heavily favored to win the series at -270 (the Heat are +220 to win the series).
The Panthers, meanwhile, are down 0-2 to the Vegas Golden Knights and are +420 underdogs to pull off the comeback.
For the price of dinner and a beer, $70K isn’t bad.
But if these two teams can pull off the upset, yet again, this bettor will never live it down.
