South Carolina has finished off a perfect season, ending Caitlin Clark and Iowa’s season in heartbreak.
The Gamecocks defeated the Hawkeyes on Sunday in Cleveland, 87-75, to win the NCAA women’s national championship and complete an undefeated 38-0 season.
They’re the first team to finish undefeated since UConn in 2016 and the 10th team in women’s Division 1 college hoops history to go undefeated; UConn has done it six times.

This marks their second national title in three years and their third under head coach Dawn Staley.
Iowa had defeated South Carolina in last year’s Final Four when the Gamecocks were undefeated.
The Hawkeyes went on to lose to LSU in the championship game, marking two straight years they’ve fallen just shy of a title.
Thus ends the collegiate career of Clark, the NCAA all-time scorer who has already declared for next week’s 2024 WNBA Draft, where she’s likely to be the No. 1 overall pick to the Indiana Fever.
