It’s nearly impossible to not raise eyebrows with the name Richard “Dicky” Lovelady.

The 29-year-old lefty made headlines when he reached an agreement Monday on a major league deal with the Mets after opting out from his minor league contract with the Twins — and his flashy name added intrigue for many.

For those who are wondering, Lovelady is taken — he’s a husband and a father.

The pitcher and his wife, Madison Lovelady, welcomed a baby boy, John Tyler, in February 2024

They tied the knot at Mountain Shadows Resort Scottsdale in November 2019 after getting engaged in March 2018.

Madison, an alum of Arizona State University, works at Lululemon activewear company as a key leader, or career coach, according to her LinkedIn.

Earlier this season, Lovelady pitched for the Twins’ Triple-A St. Paul affiliate and produced a 1.31 ERA in 19 appearances.

Lovelady lives by a few rules when it comes to his nickname, according to MLB.com.

The pitcher prefers to be Dicky on the street or at the ballpark — and he wants to be called Richard in all formal communications, such as on the scoreboard, on television and in print.

“On a baseball card, I go by Richard Lovelady,” he said. “On the scoreboard, Richard Lovelady.”

Lovelady goes by Tyler, which is his middle name, to some of his family members in order to differentiate him from his father, who’s also named Richard.

Lovelady signed with the Mets after flirting with the team during the past two offseasons.

He played in two games for the Blue Jays this season after bouncing between the Cubs and Rays last year.
