A disturbed son was found lying naked in his room after he allegedly killed his mom and their dog — blaming it on witchcraft and laughing throughout his first court appearance, telling the judge it was “always a pleasure.”
Tyler Dazey, 28, of Dubuque, Iowa, was charged with first-degree murder in the death of his mother, Jennifer Ann Dazey, 46, who suffered “significant” lacerations to her face, neck and head, KWWL reported, citing police.
Two of her fingers also were cut off during the brutal attack, which also claimed the life of the family dog whose body was discovered on the living room couch with significant injuries to its head.
He later claimed his mom used witchcraft against him, calling her a “whore,” CBS 2 Iowa reported.
One of the dead woman’s friends stumbled across the gruesome scene early Thursday after calling in to visit.
Police then found Tyler naked in his room, where he was “not overly responsive” to the officers, KWWL said.
After obtaining a search warrant, police located a tactical tomahawk in the bathroom and its sheath on the dining room table, Law & Crime reported.
Investigators have not said whether they believe the tomahawk, which they sent along with other evidence to the state crime lab for testing, was the murder weapon.
After being discharged from a local hospital, Tyler was questioned by police and said the tomahawk was his, KWWL reported.
He claimed his mom was in her bed practicing witchcraft – and that she had been doing so against him for years.
When asked about her death, Tyler reportedly invoked his Miranda rights – but described his mother as a “whore,” CBS 2 Iowa reported.
Tyler is charged with first-degree murder and animal abuse causing death.
During his initial court appearance, Tyler laughed and told Judge Mark Hostager that it was “always a pleasure” before the end of his video appearance from the slammer, The Telegraph Herald reported.
The judge ordered him held on $2 million bond, cash only, at the Dubuque County Jail. He has not entered a plea and a public defender will be appointed for him.
