Solar Opposites Season 4 is doing a great job pretending that Justin Roiland doesn’t exist.

Eagle-eyed fans noticed that the animated comedy has removed Roiland’s name from the show’s title sequence, which used to credit Roiland and Mike McMahan as co-creators.

In the first three seasons of the Hulu series, during the theme song, a white card reading “Solar Opposites” would appear on the screen in handwritten lettering. Underneath the title would read, “created by Justin Roiland and Mike McMahan.”

Now, after Roiland’s domestic abuse charges and subsequent ousting from the show, the white card solely reads the title of the show.

The change has been made to Season 4 episodes only.

In lieu of the credit on the title card, McMahan is listed first in the text credits that follow as an Executive Producer. Roiland’s name is the sixteenth and final credit to appear, listed as co-creator along with McMahan, after the other executive producers, consulting producers, and actors.

The co-creator, also known for Rick and Morty, has also been recast in his role as the main alien in the series, Korvo.

The small change shouldn’t come as news to anybody as Hulu and 20th TV Animation ended their relationship with Roiland in January 2023 after he was charged with one felony count of domestic battery with corporal injury and one felony count of false imprisonment by menace, violence, fraud and/or deceit.

The charges made against Roiland were dropped in March due to lack of evidence, but the damage had already been done. Following the lawsuit, several others came forward with allegations of sexual harassment. In February, the Hollywood Reporter published an exposé with accounts from multiple staffers who alleged that Roiland would discuss his sex life with them and behave inappropriately.

Adult Swim, Warner Bros. Discovery, and Squanch Games also severed ties with Roiland.

Roiland snapped back at the accuser after the charges were dropped, referring to her as an “embittered ex” trying to have him “canceled.” He added, “Now that the legal case has ended, I’m determined to move forward and focus both on my creative projects and restoring my good name.” As of now, Roiland does not have any new projects in development.

Solar Opposites, on the other hand, is thriving without Roiland’s participation. The series has already been renewed for a fifth season, as well as a Valentine’s Day special. In addition, viewers quickly warmed up to Dan Stevens voicing Korvo.

The British actor brings a dreamy and more palatable energy to the show and the cranky Earth-hating alien. Now to mention, the character’s voice change was seamlessly integrated into the storyline with Terry (Thomas Middleditch) accidentally stabbing Korvo in the throat with a dart and Yumyulack (Sean Giambrone) blasting him with a voice-fixing ray. When Korvo’s voice change is noted, Yumyulack offers to recalibrate the machine, but Terry stops him after expressing that he likes the British accent.

Fans were equally as impressed as Terry with Korvo’s new voice. One tweeted, “I absolutely adore Dan Stevens’ voice as Korvo” and another wrote, “Korvo is somehow way more likable when he’s not voiced by Justin Roiland.”

As every bad breakup has taught us, life is much better without your ex. Hulu gets it.
