The White Lotus Season 3 star Aimee Lou Wood is making headlines lately for more than just her incredible work in the popular HBO series.
Following last week’s season finale, Saturday Night Live capitalized on the show’s framework and current position in the cultural zeitgeist by creating a parody called “The White Potus.”
While the majority of the video was a clever commentary on U.S. President Donald Trump, his family, and his administration, all within the framework of The White Lotus, there was one moment that stood out as potentially unnecessary and mean-spirited.
From Melania Trump to Vladamir Putin, everyone in “The White Potus” video is a public figure in the political sphere… except for Sarah Sherman‘s portrayal of Aimee Lou Wood as Chelsea, which appeared to exaggerate Wood’s physical appearance and accent for joke fodder.
In a series of Instagram stories yesterday, Wood reacted to SNL‘s less-than-kind depiction of her, calling it “mean and unfunny.”

She summed up her feelings in one story that read, “Last thing I’ll say on the matter. I am not thin skinned. I actually love being take the piss out of when it’s clever and in good spirits. But the joke was about fluoride. I have big gap teeth, not bad teeth. I don’t mind caricature – I understand that’s what SNL is. But the rest of the skit was punching up and I/Chelsea was the only one punched down on.”
A few hours after Wood’s initial comments, she shared that she had received “apologies from SNL.” She went on to share that there is no bad blood between herself and Sherman for her impression, clarifying that it wasn’t the comedian’s fault, nor is she to blame, writing, “not hating on her, hating on the concept.”
Wood has received an outpouring of support since expressing her feelings on the sketch, including Instagram stories from Cara Delevigne, Georgia May Jagger, and Jameela Jamil.
The general public is also showing Wood lots of love, sending the actress thousands of messages personally, as well as taking to social media and even the comment section of “The White Potus” on YouTube to sing Wood’s praises and call out SNL.
The White Lotus Seasons 1-3 are now streaming on Max. SNL is available to stream on Peacock.
