She got a little help from her human friends.
A dog with six legs found abandoned in a parking lot last fall was able to get surgery due to the support of Good Samaritans from around the world, who donated over $19,000 for the procedure, the BBC reported.
In September, then-11-week-old spaniel Ariel was discovered in Pembrokeshire, a county in the south-west of Wales, with two extra legs.
She was named after the “Little Mermaid,” because the way the two surplus legs had fused together resembled the Disney princess’ tail.
The Cocker Spaniel also had an additional vulva and one kidney, all of which required a complex medical procedure.
The surgery was made possible by a fundraiser launched by Greenacres Animal Rescue, where Ariel was brought to when she was found.
Surgeons were able to salvage all four of her “normal” limbs, and avoid amputation of one of them.
“Due to having two hip joints on one side, Ariel’s pelvis never formed properly,” Mikey Lawlor, founder of Greenacres Rescue, told the outlet.
“As a result her normal back right leg had virtually no muscle tone, so there was a possibility that might have had to come off too. Thankfully that wasn’t the case though as it’s shown signs of having strengthened a lot in recent months.”

“The procedure went very well and Ariel took it all in her stride,” the vets at the Small Animal Referral Hospital Lankford posted on Facebook.
When Ariel is discharged from the hospital, she will return to her foster family in west Wales — and undergo “several weeks of physiotherapy” before looking for a permanent place to call home.
“The response we’ve had to Ariel’s story so far, including calls and emails from as far away as New York and Australia, has been incredible,” Lawlor told the outlet. “So I’ve no doubt she’ll be snapped up.”
