While tennis is undeniably the star of Challengers, Zendaya‘s new romantic drama set in the world of the sport, a T-shirt seen in the movie has caused quite the buzz on social media.
Even before Challengers hit theaters, Zendaya and co-star Josh O’Connor were seen in variations of shirts printed with the words “I TOLD YA” during the movie’s promotional tour.
Then, the movie was released.
First seen on Zendaya’s Tashi Duncan during one of the movie’s flashbacks, the gray “I TOLD YA” T-shirt is prominently placed in a number of scenes, eventually making its way to O’Connor’s Patrick Zweig.
Naturally, this had early viewers wondering where they could get one of their own.
As more people began seeing the movie, more history about the shirt was uncovered; this specific T-shirt style was worn by John F. Kennedy Jr. in the 1990s. Jonathan Anderson, who serves as the creative director of LOEWE, designed the costumes for Challengers and confirmed to Vogue that he took inspiration from Kennedy Jr. when designing the shirt.
To coincide with the movie’s release, LOEWE dropped an entire “I TOLD YA” line as part of The Challengers capsule collection, including T-shirts identical to the ones in the movie and crewneck sweatshirts.
