Sherri Shepherd just looked back on an iconic moment she shared with Prince in 2010 when he made a surprise visit on The View.
During Wednesday’s (June 7) episode of Sherri, the daytime host remembered the late singer on what would have been his 65th birthday. She recalled what it was like seeing him for the first time during that episode of The View.
“I was so happy. I was trying to act cool but I couldn’t help it,” she told the Sherri audience.
She went on to explain that she felt like she had to seize the moment, saying, “You got that one person who is in front of you and you will never see them again. And when Prince was siting next to me, I said to him, ‘I wanted to make love to you my entire life.'”
Shepherd’s outburst made headlines at the time.
Looking back at the episode, Prince’s appearance was a surprise to the hosts, who appeared to be caught off guard when he walked out on stage during the broadcast. Shepherd looked visibly flustered as he greeted everyone and handed each host a ticket to his show at Madison Square Garden that weekend.
After the singer talked about upcoming performances in New York City, Shepherd cut in, asking, “Prince, could you just say, ‘Sherri, I love you’?”
He obliged, saying, “Sherri, I love you,” after which they embraced while the audience applauded them.
And Shepherd’s fan-girling didn’t end there. She even tried to keep Prince’s gloves before he left the stage, exclaiming, “You don’t understand Prince, I have wanted to make love to you for my whole life.”
Her outburst made him abruptly stand up and leave the stage while the audience howled in laughter.
“Whoopi [Goldberg] was like, ‘Act like you got some sense,'” Shepherd recalled on Sherri. She later said she made Goldberg “so mad” with her behavior during Prince’s brief appearance.
“I know I probably scared him when I said that to him, but I will always have that memory of Prince when I told him I wanted to make love to him my entire life,” Shepherd said. “Happy birthday, Prince!”
Sherri airs on weekdays at 10 a.m. ET. Check the Sherri website for local listings.
