Shannon Sharpe issued a tearful goodbye Tuesday as he officially announced he was walking away from Skip Bayless and FS1’s “Undisputed.”
“Ladies and gentlemen, this is officially my last day at work,” Sharpe said on Tuesday’s episode. “After seven years, the train stops for Shannon Sharpe and ‘Undisputed’ right here.”
The Post’s Ryan Glasspiegel first reported on May 31 that Sharpe and Fox Sports reached a buyout agreement and that Sharpe would wrap up with “Undisputed” after the 2023 NBA Finals, which ended Monday night as the Nuggets won their first championship.
Sharpe, wiping away tears, had an emotional message for Bayless.
“I’ll never forget what you did for me,” Sharpe said. “All I ask is when you lay your head on your pillow at night, know I gave you everything I had.”
Bayless thanked Sharpe for his dedication to the show.
“The greatest compliment I can give you is you were a worthy adversary,” Bayless said to Sharpe.
Sharpe’s “Club Shay Shay” podcast is also leaving Fox Sports, Glasspiegel previously reported.
Tensions between Sharpe and Bayless grew due to a tweet Bayless posted after Bills safety Damar Hamlin collapsed on the field and went into cardiac arrest on Jan. 2.
“No doubt the NFL is considering postponing the rest of this game — but how? This late in the season, a game of this magnitude is crucial to the regular-season outcome … which suddenly seems so irrelevant,” Bayless tweeted at the time.
Sharpe skipped the Jan. 3 episode of “Undisputed,” and upon returning on Jan. 4, he said he wished Bayless would’ve taken the tweet down.
Bayless stood by the tweet.
It’s unclear what Sharpe’s next career move is.
“You’ll see me again somewhere, I just don’t know where,” Sharpe said Tuesday.
