Before actress Jackie Tohn was cast in shows like G.L.O.W. and Nobody Wants This, she was a contestant on American Idol back in 2009. Tohn recalled the experience while she was a guest on Live with Kelly and Mark this morning, explaining that she loved the experience on Idol, all the way up until she was unceremoniously eliminated during the show’s Hollywood Round, and she was whisked off the set without so much as a farewell from anyone on the show.
“That experience [on American Idol] was really fascinating because I was so supported and so lifted up the whole way through,” Tohn explained on the talk show, before adding, “and the second I was eliminated, which was during a commercial break, they were like ‘Bye-bye, take care!’ and I was in the shuttle back to the thing, never saw any of the contestants ever again.”
“Did Ryan [Seacrest] say goodbye?” Mark Consuelos asked Tohn.
“No, Ryan didn’t say goodbye!” Tohn exclaimed, to which Kelly Ripa quipped, “Just like here,” before she burst out laughing.
Ripa of course co-hosted Live With Kelly and Ryan from 2017 until 2023; Seacrest departed the show in the spring of 2023, and though the announcement of his departure was shocking at the time, he and Ripa parted ways on good terms. While announcing the news on the show, he stated, “Working alongside Kelly over the past six years has been a dream job and one of the highlights of my career. She has been an amazing partner, friend, and confidant, and although we will always be a part of each other’s lives, I will miss our mornings together.”

Tohn was quick to forgive Seacrest for not saying goodbye to her on Idol, adding, “It wasn’t the fault of Ryan, it was the [Hollywood] machine.”
“No, it was all Ryan’s fault. It was all Ryan’s fault,” Ripa deadpanned, before laughing again.
