Nine people, including at least three minors, were taken to area hospitals after gunfire erupted near the Hollywood Beach Broadwalk around 6:40 p.m., CBS News Miami reported.
There has been no information on the condition of those injured.
Five suspects were taken into custody while one person is believed to still be at-large, according to the outlet.
A live feed posted to Twitter showed people running away and ducking for cover as gunshots rang out Monday evening near the Margaritaville Hollywood Beach Resort.
Another video showed a bloody scene as first responders tended to victims on the beach.
Hollywood Police asked the public to avoid the Broadwalk and Hollywood Beach from Johnson to Garfield streets as they investigate the shooting. The department set up a reunification area at Johnson Street and the North Ocean bus loop.
“Thank you to the good Samaritans, paramedics, police and emergency room doctors and nurses for their immediate response to aid the victims of today’s shooting,” Mayor Josh Levy tweeted.
Hollywood Beach, a hotspot about 11 miles south of Fort Lauderdale and 20 miles north of Miami, is expected to see more revelers than usual due to the holiday.
