Seth MacFarlane is gearing up to release his Ted prequel series — and according to the actor, it’s not as “terrible” as he expected it to be.

On this morning’s episode of The View, MacFarlane and Liz Gillies talked to Whoopi Goldberg, Sara Haines and Alyssa Farah Griffin about their new holiday album. But before they could perform their song on the hit daytime talk show, Griffin had to ask about MacFarlane’s upcoming series.

“One thing that people are clamoring for right now is anything that they’ve seen before. Nobody wants anything new,” he said, referring to the surge in reboots and revivals. “Let’s rehash the same stuff. And boy, did we step up to the plate with that.”

MacFarlane marked his feature-length directorial debut with Ted in 2012. The adult comedy follows the friendship between Boston native John Bennett (Mark Wahlberg) and his childhood stuffed animal Ted (voiced by MacFarlane), which came to life after he made a wish as a kid.

It’s been eight years since the film’s sequel Ted 2 came out — and fans are finally getting some new content with a Peacock prequel series that’s set to follow John and Ted’s teenage years.

“It’s surprisingly funny. It’s surprisingly very, very funny,” MacFarlane teased on The View. “[With] a prequel, you don’t know. I go into everything like, ‘This is it. This is where I’m gonna screw up. And everything is going to be terrible.’ And it wasn’t. It turned out great. So I think people are gonna like it.”

In a trailer that came out earlier this week, Max Burkholder plays a younger version of Wahlberg’s John, who, along with Ted, must navigate the highs and lows of high school. In classic Ted fashion, the teaser is filled with NSFW moments like masturbation jokes, the duo getting high for the first time and Ted vouching to help John lose his virginity.

The seven-episode series is set to premiere on Peacock on Jan. 11.

The View airs on weekdays at 11/10c on ABC.
