With the odds of a trade for Paul Skenes, Chris Sale and Freddy Peralta ranging from slim (Peralta) to practically none (Skenes and Sale), the best pitchers to hit the market could be Seth Lugo and Joe Ryan. And realistically, neither of them is all that likely to be out there, either.
The Royals are thinking buy now. But Lugo probably has a better chance to be traded than Ryan as Lugo has an opt out, making him a likely free agent.
The Twins are in the buy/sell middle and aren’t especially likely to give up. Ryan would bring a haul, but he has two years to go before free agency. The Twins could have a fantastic sale even if they traded mostly bullpen pieces, led by 100-mph-throwing closer Jhoan Durán.
Ultimately, the Marlins may have the best starters with Sandy Alcantara and the hot Edward Cabrera (1.46 ERA over seven starts).
