NextImg:Serial rape suspect Matthew Nilo and fiancé show united front at Boston court hearing

Accused rapist Matthew Nilo and his fiancé put on a united front Tuesday as they walked into a Boston court for a discovery hearing.

The glamorous couple held tight to each other’s hands as they entered the Suffolk Superior Court Tuesday for a hearing where both sides will share their discovery files.

The lawyer, 35, wore a fitted gray suit with a stripped tie and sunglasses while his fiancé, Laura Griffin, sported a fashionable tan trench coat, a white turtleneck, and black pants.

Neither Nilo or his lawyer spoke as they walked down the brick road to the courthouse.

Griffin has stayed supportive of Nilo since his arrest in May and frequently been at his side in court, even clutching rosary beads during proceedings.

Nilo stands accused of raping or sexually assualting several women in Boston’s North End and Charlestown between 2007 and 2008, when he was living there.

He was charged with aggravated rape, kidnapping, assault with attempt to rape, and indecent assault and battery. He was released on a $550,000 bail in June and has pleaded not guilty.

Tuesday’s hearing consisted of sharing notices of discovery, according to local outlet WCVB.

It was reportedly discussed whether or not identifying information about the victims would be released to Nilo or if it would need to be redacted, the local outlet said. It is unclear what decision was made.

The Boston native – who now lives in New Jersey – was arrested in May at his home in Weehawken after the FBI lured him out of his apartment by having the front desk call him to say there was an oversized package to be picked up.

The disgraced lawyer, 35, wore a fitted gray suit with a stripped tie and a pair of sunglasses, while his fiancé Laura Griffin sported a fashionable tan trench coat, a white turtleneck, and black pants. Griffins accessorized her outfit with a large pair of sunglasses and a two-toned bag.

Nilo had been living in the North End of Boston when the alleged attacks took place and would have been around 19 or 20 at the time of the multiple rapes.

One of the alleged victims in the case was attacked twice within 11 days, according to the district attorney.

“The incidents followed a similar pattern. The victims were attacked while they were walking alone, in the dark, either at night or early in the morning,” the DA’s office said in a statement.

District Attorney Kevin Hayden said DNA evidence from a glass Nilo used at a corporate event was used to link Nilo to the alleged crimes. Nilo had become a person of interest in the rapes in 2022.

Nilo’s attorney has accused the government of “piling” sunolved sexual assault cases onto his client and claimed the government obtaining Nilo’s DNA from the drinking glass was “unconstitutional,” as he claimed authorities did not obtain a warrant first.
