Selena Gomez, Martin Short and Steve Martin became the best friend trio no one expected when they began working on Only Murders in the Building together. Now, four years after the show first premiered, Gomez has given her co-stars a very important role in her impending nuptials to music producer Benny Blanco.

Gomez and Blanco, who announced their engagement in December 2024 after more than one year of dating, appeared on this morning’s episode of The Drew Barrymore Show, where host Drew Barrymore suggested having Short and Martin officiate their wedding.

“Oh, my gosh! I haven’t even thought about that,” Gomez said. “But Marty is due to give a speech. I told him he must. Steve will probably pull out his banjo, but I feel like Marty would have an epic speech.”

Speaking of her time working on the hit Hulu series — which is currently filming its fourth season — Gomez said the show has “changed [her] life in so many ways.” The actress had nothing but kind things to say about Short and Martin, whom she lovingly refers to as her “weird uncles.”

“Steve and Marty are such examples to me,” she told Barrymore. “And I’m just so grateful to work with them both.”

The Father of the Bride actors told ExtraTV in a January interview that they “absolutely” approve of Blanco for Gomez.

“We like Benny a lot. He’s great, he’s funny,” Martin said, while Short jokingly added, “If only he’d remember our names. Oh, well.”

Following news of their engagement, Martin also congratulated Gomez in an Instagram post.

“Congratulations to Benny and Selena, from her two weird uncles,” he captioned a photo of him, Gomez, and Short, while Gomez commented, “You are the best weirdo a gal like me can have! ❤️”
