Sean O’Malley was living the high life after his second-round knockout of Long Island native Aljamain Sterling to capture the bantamweight title at UFC 292.
Hours after he stunned the UFC world with his victory over Sterling, O’Malley lit up a massive joint to celebrate in a video posted on Instagram.
The new bantamweight title holder was still in his fight shorts and had his newly earned hardware slung over his shoulder.
O’Malley was still clearly feeling the confidence from the brutal beating he put on Sterling in the fight.
“You are the man. You’re the man. You are the man,” O’Malley said in the video, with the joint still in his mouth and a plume of smoke coming out at one point.
The video elicited more than 13,000 comments since it was posted, which included comments from rap superstar Drake and legend Snoop Dogg.
“O. Malley. O. Malley,” the rap legend wrote.”The Suga show starts now. Great work, Nefew.”
In another comment, Drake wrote, “this a hard video.”
O’Malley’s UFC 292 bout win wasn’t the only headline he made in the early hours of Sunday morning.
In his post-fight press conference, the MMA star told reporters that he “wouldn’t mind knocking out Gervonta Davis.”
He was quick to head off any criticisms of him trying to be a “wanna-be Conor,” referring to Conor McGregor, who made the crossover from MMA to boxing to face Floyd Mayweather Jr in 2017, in which he was stopped in the 11th round.
The undefeated Davis, known as “Tank,” is the current WBA lightweight title holder and is considered one of boxing’s best knockout artists.
“I’m telling you that fight is going to happen. I would love to [crossover to boxing]. He’s f–king this tall, dude,” the 5-foot-11 O’Malley said, referencing Davis’ height, who is 5-foot-5.
“I would love to go out there and box him.”
However, O’Malley did concede that it may take another major win or title for UFC to get behind the idea.
“I feel like it could happen sooner than later,” he said. “But I also know that UFC is down to get behind stuff like that if it’s big enough and with that performance, I think we’re getting close. But maybe I have to go out there and win a couple more fights, win another belt. I don’t even know if he’s considered a big enough star for the UFC to let that happen. But it’ll happen.”
O’Malley took down Sterling in the UFC 292 main event with a ferocious right hook and then unleashed a vicious ground-and-pound attack.
