Sean Manaea is off to quite a start to his Mets career.
The left-hander retired the first 12 batters he faced and carried a no-hitter into the sixth in his first start with the Mets against the Tigers on Monday night at Citi Field.
He gave up a leadoff walk to Riley Greene in the top of the fifth to end his perfect games hopes and had a no-hitter going until Andy Ibáñez singled on a line drive to left with two outs.
But Brandon Nimmo threw out Carson Kelly out at home trying to score to end the inning.
Manaea, who signed a two-year, $28 million deal — that included an opt-out — to join the Mets this past offseason, struck out seven batters in the first five innings and needed just 70 pitches.
Ex-Met Mark Canha hit a fly ball to deep center that Harrison Bader ran down for the first out in the fifth and the inning ended with a lineout to left by former Yankee Gio Urshela.
The 32-year-old is coming off a pair of shaky seasons with the Giants and Padres — although he took a no-hitter into the eighth inning of his San Diego debut in 2022.
He provided the Mets with some much-needed solid starting pitching after a poor showing by Luis Severino in the team’s second game of the season, followed by Tylor Megill hitting the IL with a shoulder strain on Monday.

The Mets, though, hadn’t scored and had just two hits heading into the top of the seventh.
