NextImg:‘Scream 7’: What We Know About Future ‘Scream’ Movies, and Whether Neve Campbell Will Return

Scream 6 is now streaming on Paramount+, which means if you didn’t get a chance to meet the latest Ghostface in person, now you can find out who’s under the mask from the comfort of your home.

Directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett and written by James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick—continues the story of Scream 5, following a new cast of characters led by stars Jenna Ortega and Melissa Barrera, who play sisters Tara and Sam. Tara is attempting to live a normal life as a college student in New York City, while Sam has gone the Sidney Prescott route of being prepared for a Ghostface attack at every turn. Their friends Mindy (Jasmin-Savoy Brown) and Chad (Mason Gooding) are back, as well as legacy character Gale Weathers, aka Courteney Cox.

You better believe Ghostface is back again, and he’s after Billy Loomis’s daughter, aka Sam. We won’t spoil anything here, but Scream 6 leaves the door open for more movies to come. So will there be a Scream 7? Read on to find out what we know.

As of now, Scream 7 has not been officially confirmed. That said, it seems likely that the film will happen, given that Scream 6 was a box office success, with a worldwide box office of over $167 million, far outperforming 2022’s Scream (which took home about $138.8 million).

At the premiere of Scream 6, co-director Matt Bettinelli-Olpin (who directed alongside Tyler Gillett) said that he “hoped” there would be a Scream 7, even if he wasn’t involved—perhaps indicating that Paramount was exploring the possibility of a new director. “We want to be watching Scream movies, whether we’re involved or not, for the rest of our lives,” said Bettinelli-Olpin. Bettinelli-Olpin and Gillett, who run the production company Radio Silence, also co-directed 2022’s Scream, aka Scream 5.

In a different interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Bettinelli-Olpin and Gillett also said they hoped that star Neve Campbell might return to the franchise if there were to be a Scream 7. “We’d never give up on her. We love Neve, and we love Sidney. So we’d love to be able to make another movie with her, and we’re not giving up,” Bettinelli-Olpin said. In case you hadn’t heard, Scream VI was also the first Scream movie not to feature star Neve Campbell, after the actor was unable to negotiate her desired salary for the movie. In a statement released last year, Campbell said, “I felt the offer that was presented to me did not equate to the value I have brought to the franchise.”

C’mon, guys! Pay Sidney Prescott what she’s worth!

We don’t know. Given that the movie has not officially been green-lit yet, we can expect to wait at least a year, if not more, before Scream 7 comes out—if, indeed, it comes out at all. While Scream fans were spoiled by the short turnaround between the fifth and sixth movie, you’ll likely have to wait longer for this one.

That said, the Radio Silence guys were able to make and release an entire movie in just over a year, from when Scream 6 was green-lit on February 3, 2022 to when it was released on March 10, 2023. So we do know it is possible for these guys to deliver a 13-month turnaround. For now, we’ll just have to wait and see.
