NextImg:Scottie Scheffler finishes PGA Championship strong days after arrest

It likely won’t be enough for another major title, but Scottie Scheffler did everything he could to move back into contention Sunday at the PGA Championship after a strange weekend in Louisville, Ky.

Scheffler, the world’s No. 1 golfer, shot a 6-under 65 — his best round of the tournament at Valhalla Golf Club — and shifted into a tie for eighth at 13-under with Billy Horschel, Thomas Detry and Sahith Theegala.

Detry and Theegala were still in the process of completing their final rounds.

Scheffler recovered from a bogey on his first hole Sunday and birdied five times on the back-nine.

His weekend became controversial on Friday, though, when Scheffler was arrested outside of Valhalla and charged with second-degree assault of a police officer, third-degree criminal mischief, reckless driving and disregarding signals from officer directing traffic.

The incident occurred when Scheffler tried to enter Valhalla.

He changed into an orange jumpsuit at a jail for his mugshot, but Scheffler still made it back to the course for his tee time later that morning — and ended up shooting a 5-under 66 that day.

Those charges are expected to be dropped, No Laying Up reported Sunday.

Scheffler has an arraignment scheduled for Tuesday.
