Scoot Henderson was in the middle of a strong debut with the Portland Trail Blazers in the NBA Summer League before it was cut short by an injury.
The No. 3 overall pick of the Trail Blazers exited the team’s game against the Houston Rockets in the third quarter with a right shoulder injury, the team announced.
It was not immediately clear when or how the 19-year-old guard hurt his shoulder.
Before the injury, Henderson was putting on an electric performance in Las Vegas.
The G League Ignite product put up 15 points — 13 of which came in the first quarter — on 5-of-13 shooting with six assists, five rebounds and one steal.
He was a perfect 4-for-4 from the foul line and 1-for-3 from beyond the 3-point arc.
The Georgia native largely went toe-to-toe with the Rockets’ Amen Thompson, who was taken one spot behind Henderson in the 2023 NBA Draft.
With a little less than a minute in the fourth quarter, Thompson, 20, himself grabbed his left ankle and limped off the court and toward the locker room.
In the days and hours leading into the draft, there were reports that the Charlotte Hornets were considering taking Henderson with the No. 2 pick but instead opted for Alabama’s Brandon Miller.
Henderson averaged 16.5 points, 6.8 assists and 5.4 rebounds in 19 G League games.
