Things got a little feisty on this morning’s episode of The View when Sara Haines called out Sunny Hostin for misconstruing her words.
As the co-hosts continued to unpack Donald Trump‘s presidential victory, they discussed Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s social media video asking to talk and listen to Americans who voted for Trump to be POTUS and Democrats down the ballot otherwise.
While Hostin didn’t think Democrats needed to have a “post-mortem” after losing the election as Republicans didn’t have one back in 2020, Haines felt differently.
“I would never model myself after what they’ve done,” she said. “They may have won but that does not change, as Kamala Harris said, my values and what I vote for.”
Haines noted that while her first choice for president didn’t win the election, she found it important to understand people who voted for the other candidate.
“When I see things that are out of touch with what I thought was going on, I will always look inward. It is just the way I am. It is what I learned in church, it is what I learned from my parents,” she said. “I will not change my viewpoint because it didn’t win this election. But I will open my ears to people that said, ‘I have issues to and they’re different from yours and this is why.’”
“There were millions and millions of people that felt heard and that’s what I’m trying to lock into. It won’t change my stance, or maybe it will. I’m open to someone trying to convince me —,” she continued, before Hostin cut her off and asked, “That Donald Trump is good for people?”

Haines quickly fired back, “If that’s what you’re hearing, you’re missing my whole point,” to which Hostin replied, “I am. I am.”
According to Haines, the point she was trying to make was that she was “listening” to a lot of different people.
“This will not be the end of anything I want to fight for. But I will look back,” she said. “Because I played sports through college and you never ignored the tapes of the game and said they cheated. You look at the game, you assess it, and you go forward.”
The View airs on weekdays at 11/10c on ABC.
