Saquon Barkley is taking a step forward on his sprained ankle.
Barkley was scheduled to participate Thursday afternoon in individual drills, which would be the first time since he was helped off the field late in the fourth quarter of the Giants’ win against the Cardinals on Sept. 17.
The Giants were expected to hit (and reinforce tackling fundamentals) during practice.
“We’re going to let him run around and see how he does,” head coach Brian Daboll said. “Making progress. I think this is a good evaluation today in pads to see where he is at.”
The Giants only ran the ball 11 times – their lowest single-game total since 1989 – last week against the 49ers while Barkley was sidelined.
Matt Breida scored a touchdown on the ground.
Barkley told Amazon during a pregame interview that he had a high ankle sprain, which generally requires a longer recovery period than an ordinary ankle sprain.

The Giants (1-2) host the Seattle Seahawks (2-1) on “Monday Night Football.”
