Samantha Markle looked worse for wear as she arrived at a Tampa court Wednesday to secure her defamation case against her half-sister, Meghan Markle.
Samantha, 58, sued the Duchess of Sussex, 42, in federal court in Florida for allegedly making “demonstrably false and malicious statements” about her to a world audience during her and Prince Harry’s bombshell March 2021 interview with Oprah Winfrey.
Samantha, who suffers from multiple sclerosis and uses a wheelchair, filed the $75,000 lawsuit after the exiled royal claimed she grew up as an only child.
The comments subjected Samantha to “humiliation and hatred,” she claimed in the filing, which was brought forward in March 2022, and dismissed in March this year.
US District Judge Charlene Edwards Honeywell wrote in her order that Meghan’s emarks were opinions and “not capable of being proved false.”
Samantha is now throwing a last-ditch attempt of bringing the case to trial in Florida.
Judge Honeywell, overseeing the case, is expected to make a decision whether to proceed to trial in the coming weeks.
Speaking to reporters outside court, Samantha said she was “optimistic” about her case, and believes it has the legs to proceed to trial.
“I think the truth stands on its own, so I’m optimistic and thankful that we have a justice system that gives us the chance to present the facts,” she told The US Sun.
She also defended her book, “The Diary of Princess Pushy’s Sister Part 1,” and insisted it’s not “a slamming tell-all.”
“Anybody who has read my book knows it’s more of a sociological book about social labels,” she told the outlet.
“The title, as a matter of fact, wasn’t a jab at her [Meghan], it was a mockery of social labels because the media had previously called her ‘Princess Pushy.'”
Samantha, who said she was left hurt by the Duchess of Sussex’s remarks, told Fox 13, “People change, they have agendas, they have other things influencing their lives. It doesn’t change reality.”
Her lawyer, Peter Ticktin, claims Samantha now fears leaving her house after being harassed every day since Meghan’s interviews came to light.
Elsewhere, Meghan’s attorney Michael Kump said Samantha’s case was baseless.
“This has always been a lawsuit in search of a viable claim,” said Klump. “The case has failed because it runs head first up against defamation law and the First Amendment.”
