NextImg:Saints’ Marcus Maye suspended three games for 2021 DUI arrest

Saints safety Marcus Maye was suspended for three games for violating the NFL’s substance abuse policy.

The ban is connected to a 2021 DUI arrest which was resolved over the summer when the ex-Jet accepted a plea deal in August of this year.

Maye allegedly hit the left rear of a Volvo while driving on the Florida Turnpike at 7:33 p.m. on Feb. 23, 2021, with the police report stating Maye was “unresponsive” and that an officer observed vomit on the driver’s side door.

The officer also said Maye’s eyes were bloodshot and his speech was slurred, though Maye said he hadn’t been drinking and the smell was from two days prior.

Maye declined to give them a breath sample and was arrested for DUI/DUI property damage.

In the 31 months since the arrest, Maye played his final season with the Jets on a franchise tag, tore his ACL and then signed a three-year deal with the Saints.

Maye is eligible to return to the New Orleans’ active roster on Monday, Oct. 9, after the team’s Week 5 game at New England.

The former second-round pick was arrested again in September 2022 after he was accused of pointing a gun at a car full of girls.

Maye was charged with aggravated assault with a firearm, and the Jefferson Parish District Attorney declined to prosecute in March, citing “insufficient evidence.”

The 30-year-old started both games for the Saints this season, picking up an interception against the Titans in New Orleans’ season-opening win.

He’s started all 12 games he’s played in over two seasons with New Orleans after playing 60 games with the Jets over his first five NFL seasons.

Maye joins Alvin Kamara and Jake Haener as Saints players currently suspended.
