Sun guard Leïla Lacan intercepted Breanna Stewart’s pass intended for Sabrina Ionescu with only six seconds left in Monday night’s game and the Liberty up by only two.

But as Lacan took off for the other end, Ionescu chased her down and cleanly swatted the ball away to prevent a potential game-tying layup.

Ionescu’s game-saving block secured the Liberty’s 81-79 win against the Sun at Barclays Center.

Monday’s game shouldn’t have been as close as it was for most of the last three quarters.

The Liberty made it a lot harder than it needed to be.

Then again, that seems to be a trend with this team.

The Liberty — who welcomed back Stewart for the first time in a month — led by as many as 17 points in the first quarter.

And it wasn’t the usual suspects for the Sun who got hot.

Aneesah Morrow had 18 points and 15 rebounds and Lacan scored a game-high 22 points off the bench.

But the Liberty managed to pull off a gritty win.

Stewart finished with a team-high 19 points and added five rebounds.

Jonquel Jones contributed 18 points, 11 rebounds and six assists while Ionescu recorded 11 points, nine assists and seven rebounds.
