


ROME — The first pairings are in for the 44th Ryder Cup matches, which begin Friday morning at Marco Simone Country Club with foursomes, which is alternate shot.
The first match, which begins at 1:35 a.m. ET, pits Scottie Scheffler, the No. 1 ranked player in the world, and Sam Burns, one of the captain’s picks, against Jon Rahm, ranked No. 2 in the world, and England’s Tyrrell Hatton.
The second match, at 1:50 a.m. ET, features Max Homa and Brian Harman, two first-timers for the Ryder Cup, against Viktor Hovland and Ludvig Aberg, also a Ryder Cup rookie.
The third match, at 2:05 a.m. ET, will have Rickie Fowler and Collin Morikawa against Shane Lowry and rookie Sepp Straka.
The fourth match, at 2:20 a.m. ET, has Xander Schauffele and his close friend Patrick Cantlay against European stalwart Rory McIlroy and Tommy Fleetwood.
Brooks Koepka, the only LIV Golf member competing in the Ryder Cup, is not slated to play early Friday.
Also sitting for U.S. captain Zach Johnson are Jordan Spieth, Justin Thomas and Wyndham Clark.
