Wheel Of Fortune fans are giving Ryan Seacrest their official stamp of approval.
Nielsen reports that Seacrest’s first week hosting Wheel of Fortune drew the show’s largest premiere week audience in five years at 8.31 million viewers.
Deadline reports that the show’s Season 42 premiere episode, which marked Seacrest’s first day hosting Wheel, had the show’s highest-rated season premiere audience at 9.63 million viewers, marking a 70% increase from last year’s premiere episode.
The outlet notes the show is was “up double-digit percentages in all key demos,” including a 63% increase in adults ages 18 to 49.
These promising numbers bode well for the show’s new era. Not only does the game show have a new host, but it’s also settling into a new set.
Seacrest is taking over for Pat Sajak, who hosted Wheel for 41 years. He will also serve as a consulting producer.
His hosting debut was met with a rather divided reaction from fans, some of whom felt he and Vanna White made a “great team,” while others felt like he got “off to a rocky start.”
However, White only had praise to share for her new co-host in a recent interview with Parade.

“Ryan just stepped right in,” she said. “He did so much rehearsing and really cares about the show. Hopefully that’s what America sees.”
“It was obviously very different after working with someone for 41 years… I just think of it as a new era, because we also have a new set and a new puzzle board,” she said. “But I’m so happy that they hired Ryan because he does not want to replace Pat. He said, ‘I’m here to just do a good job.’”
White also teased that she and Seacrest will be taking the show cross-country this season with special episodes in Nashville, Salt Lake City and Hawaii.
Sajak won’t be going too far, however. The television icon will be staying on Wheel as an executive producer. He is also set to continue hosting Celebrity Wheel of Fortune for the time being.
