Even in death, actors can’t escape snubs from award shows.
On Monday night, the 2024 Emmys left several big stars out of the “In Memoriam” segment.
The segment – which pays respect to actors, directors, producers, writers and TV personalities who died in the past year – honored Matthew Perry, Angela Lansbury, “Euphoria” star Angus Cloud, Norman Lear, Andre Braugher, Paul Reubens, Stephen “Twitch” Boss, “This is Us” star Ron Cephas Jones, Leslie Jordan, Lance Reddick, Kirstie Alley and Treat Williams, among others.
As photos of the deceased stars played in a slide show, Charlie Puth and the War and Treaty performed Puth’s 2015 hit song “See You Again” and The Rembrandts’ “Friends” theme song, “I’ll Be There For You,” as an additional tribute to Perry.
There were a lot of tragic losses this year, including several stars lost too soon — Cloud was only 25, Perry was 54, Cephas Jones was 66, Braugher was 61, Reddick was 60.
However, the segment left several big names out.
Ryan O’Neal, who died at age 82 in December, is a Hollywood heavy-hitter who was omitted.
“Wasn’t watching #Emmys but someone let me know they left my dad out of the ‘in memoriam,” his son, Patrick O’Neal, 56, posted on X, formerly Twitter.
“Kind of wish I didn’t know right now but I would’ve found out. Sad and mad is a paralyzing combo.”
Ray Stevenson, who died suddenly at age 58, was also left out – and he had a slew of TV shows under his belt, including a starring role in HBO’s “Rome,” a major role in Showtime’s “Dexter,” a role in Starz’s “Black Sails,” and he was filming a role in “Star Wars: Ashoka,” at the time of his death.
Raquel Welch (who died at age 82), original Wednesday Addams actress Lisa Loring (who died of a stroke age 64), “The Wire” star Al Brown (who died at age 83 of Alzheimers) and Julian Sands were also left out.
Sands, who appeared in shows such as “24” and “Smallville,” died age 65.
Sands was reported missing by his wife on Jan. 13 after the “A Room With a View” star never returned from a hike in the San Gabriel Mountains outside of Los Angeles.
His body was found by local hikers on June 24 after months of search efforts.
The bizarre and tragic saga made headlines for months, making the omission even stranger.
Jerry Springer, who died of cancer in April at age 79, was also left out – and Springer’s controversial show “Jerry Springer” was a TV mainstay from 1991 to 2018 that shaped the talk show landscape.
“Sucks the EMMY tribute didn’t include Jerry Springer. A pioneer in television,” one viewer slammed the ceremony.
