NextImg:Ryan Grubb bolting Alabama for Seahawks offensive coordinator job in twist

The coaching carousel keeps on turning in college and the NFL.

Ryan Grubb was expected to join Alabama as their next offensive coordinator but is instead jumping to the NFL to take the same role for the Seahawks, ESPN reported on Friday.

Grubb had been linked to the Seattle over the last week, but during an event on National Signing day on Wednesday at Bryant-Denny Stadium, he told those in Tuscaloosa that he wasn’t going anywhere.

“I’m Ryan Grubb, I’m your new offensive coordinator,” he said, according to the Next Round.

He was never announced as the Crimson Tide’s offensive coordinator, but already had been recruiting and wearing Alabama gear, the Tuscaloosa News reported.

New head coach Kalen DeBoer had Grubb as his offensive coordinator at Washington the last two seasons, and it appeared the two would work together in Alabama after going to the College Football national title game this past season.

DeBoer and Grubb also worked prior stints together at Sioux Falls, Eastern Michigan and Frenso State, but this expected pro hire will separate the two and leave Alabama with a vacancy.

Grubb instead will work with new Seahawks coach Mike Macdonald, who is replacing the legendary Pete Carroll in Seattle.

In Washington this past season, Grubb oversaw one of the top offenses in the Pac-12, with the Huskies and star quarterback Michael Penix Jr. finishing third in total yards per game (462.1) and in points per game (36).

He inherits a Seahawks team that has quarterback Geno Smith under center and under contract for two more years.

The move comes amid a wild day involving college football coaches that saw Chip Kelly leave UCLA to become Ohio State’s new offensive coordinator and Bill O’Brien take Boston College’s head coaching job.
