NextImg:Rumors are percolating that Bears will select Ashton Jeanty in NFL draft

Rumors are circling that Ashton Jeanty could be heading to Chicago.

The Athletic’s Dianna Russini reported Thursday in the lead-up to the 2025 NFL Draft that the Bears “are among teams making calls in an attempt to trade up” for Jeanty.

Earlier this week, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that the Bears had high hopes Jeanty would still be around when their turn came up on the clock on Thursday.

“There are multiple personnel people who believe the Bears are praying that Jeanty slips to them at No. 10,” Schefter reported Monday. “They think new Bears coach Ben Johnson could feature Jeanty and D’Andre Swift as a two-headed duo the way the Lions did with David Montgomery and Jahmyr Gibbs when Johnson was Detroit’s offensive coordinator.”

Jeanty is widely seen as one of the best running back prospects in recent NFL history.

Last season, he led the country with 2,601 rushing yards and scored 30 total touchdowns, finishing No. 2 behind Colorado’s Travis Hunter in Heisman Trophy voting.

He finished his college career with 4,769 rushing yards and 50 touchdowns on the ground.

Jeanty, in a letter last week in The Players’ Tribune, said he could bring as much value to teams as Saquion Barkley.

“Most people, they watched the Eagles win the Super Bowl a couple of months ago, they watched Saquon run through everyone in the playoffs, and they thought to themselves, ‘This is amazing,’” Jeanty wrote. “I watched it and I thought something different. I thought, ‘That can be me.’ … I’ve taken the long way. I’m done with that way.

“If you pick me, it’s simple: I’m coming to your franchise to do what Saquon and the Eagles just did. I’m coming to win, big, soon.”
