When Outlander: Blood of My Blood Season 1 premiered this past summer, fans of the original Starz hit first wondered just how the story of Claire’s parents met during World War I could possibly line up with that of Jamie’s parents in 18th century Scotland. Then, after they realized that the answer was time travel, they had a different quandary. Could Blood of My Blood possibly be as sexy as Outlander?

Ever since Outlander‘s debut in 2014, it’s set the standard for steamy, dreamy sex scenes on television. The show was at the forefront of championing female desire on screen, celebrating the sort of heightened romance that would later come to define other hits on Starz and even Netflix’s Bridgerton.

There are still three more episodes left in first season of Outlander: Blood of My Blood, but the show has already gifted fans of romance a number of decadent sex scenes. Ellen MacKenzie (Harriet Slater) and Brian Fraser (Jamie Roy) have had ruinous sex under the radar while Henry Beauchamp (Jeremy Irvine) and Julia Moriston (Hermione Corfield) have gotten it on in broad daylight.

Whether we’re talking about Dougal (Sam Retford) getting it on or the dizzying highs of true love, Blood of My Blood has delivered. As it happens, the people who gave us Jamie and Claire were pretty passionate themselves.

Here are our favorite Outlander: Blood of My Blood sex scenes (so far)…

1. Now, you might be thinking to yourself, “Wait, we don’t even know the name of Dougal’s Episode 1 hookup. Why is this hot? Where is the romance? Where is the yearning? Where is the love?” Sometimes sex is just sex. Sometimes it’s just two hot highlanders grunting against some furniture for the heck of it. And sometimes a sex scene is there to set the tone. 

   The main Outlander series established early on that it would be dedicated to hot, steamy romance. Even if Claire and Jamie took weeks to get it on, Claire was enjoying orgasms from the get go, courtesy of 20th century hubby Frank. 

   Recent seasons of Outlander have been no less romantic, but decidedly less carnal. As Claire and Jamie have become grandparents, their love scenes have become more tame. Blood of My Blood is establishing right out the gate with its first sex scene that it will be hella steamy, hella horny, and hella hot. 

   Besides setting the tone for the series, this sequence also shows us just want a hot-blooded hottie young Dougal was. He can pick up a girl just by getting rough and rowdy on the curling field. Does he think it through? Nah, he just goes for it while we — and a few other in-universe interlopers — watch. 

2. While eagle-eyed viewers might have noticed them stuck in the 18th century, our first real introduction to Henry Beauchamp and Julia Moriston as a couple emphasizes the passion they share. We stumble upon them right in the middle of getting frisky al fresco. 

   What makes this scene extra hot is the intense eye contact the couple share. Yes, we get a naughty glimpse of legs tangled and an overhead shot of the two eagerly thrusting against each other. However what makes this sex scene really soar is how the soulmates are locked in with each other — and each other’s pleasure — throughout the scene. 

   We don’t even know what foreplay led to this, but the climax alone tells us so much about the love these two share. (It also gives us an idea where their daughter Claire gets her healthy libido from…)

3. Outlander: Blood of My Blood Episode 2 shows us just how Claire’s parents fell in love without even meeting each other. Henry, traumatized by the horrors he’s experienced on the front, sends a letter detailing his despair to “whom it may concern.” Julia, working in the redaction office, gets the letter on her desk and is immediately transfixed by Henry’s words. She sends him a response and so sparks an epistolary romance. 

   When the two finally meet face to face, they already know they are soulmates. So much so, they immediately embrace and resolve to get busy. In fact, Henry “proposes” to Julia while they’re taking their clothes off. What follows is a steamy scene where their flesh literally seems to become one. Marriage license be damned!

   When DECIDER spoke to Blood of My Blood stars Jeremy Irvine and Hermione Corfield, they emphasized that their characters were already deeply in love. 

   “It’s been building and building and building,” Irvine said. “It’s not like they’ve just met and only just got to know each other. These two people, it’s a meeting of souls and they’ve fallen in love long, long, long before they ever meet.”

4. Did your pulse pound a wee bit as soon as Blood of My Blood Episode 3 opened with Ellen MacKenzie in a very compromising position with crush Brian Fraser? Were you confused how the young lovers went from using a stalwart stone bridge as their chaperone to getting handsy in the Highlands? 

   Yes, we stumbled upon Ellen in the midst of a sex dream, but we’re not complaining! 

   What’s so great about this imaginary hookup is the fact that Brian is eager to please his lady. Say all you want about female fantasy, but there’s something heady about the idea of a man volunteering his services in the pursuit of giving his lover pleasure. We need more hands creeping up bare legs and under skirts on TV, in my opinion.

5. If there’s one moment that has rippled through the Outlander: Blood of My Blood fandom, it’s got to be Brian and Ellen’s handfasting in the old chapel. The two sneak off for some alone time during the bustle of Beltane and wind up consummating their romance once and for all in one of the most dreamy ways possible. They declare their love for each other and get down and dirty in the most magical way.

   Of course, what makes the sequence all the more hot is the risk running through it. Ellen is supposed to be betrothed to Malcolm Grant. Moreover, the MacKenzies and Frasers are mortal enemies and — and! — Brian is a bastard. By losing herself in Brian’s arms, Ellen is flirting with her own downfall. When she begs, “Ruin me,” she is emphasizing that her love for Brian is greater than anything else. 

   “They make that promise in Episode 1, on the bridge, that they’re all in. This is it,” Blood of My Blood star Harrier Slater told DECIDER. “But that scene in the chapel really is the point of no return, I think. It changes both of them and it changes their relationship completely.”

   Jamie Roy added that Brian goes along out of love and trust and respect for Ellen.

   “He knows when they’re in that church the repercussions of what would happen and that could ruin her, but he trusts Ellen so much. She’s so strong-willed that he trusts that, if she says, ‘This is what I want,’ he’s going to take her at her word and be like, ‘Okay, well, I trust you. We’re in this together. We’re a team. We’re equals…I don’t know any better than you,’” he said. “They really have that trust together in that moment.”

   They really have that trust and they really have that sex. 

   How much steamier can Outlander: Blood of My Blood get? Will we get at least one more hot hookup before the season ends on October 10? Here’s hoping…
