You won’t catch Drew Barrymore draped head-to-toe in designer wear outside of work hours. Instead, the wholesome actress can usually be seen wearing an old set of patched-up sweatpants, again making her one of the most relatable celebrities out there.
Barrymore opened up about her love of comfort clothing on this morning’s episode of The Drew Barrymore Show when she, Ross Mathews, and Sunny Anderson weighed in on actor Stanley Tucci‘s controversial opinion that sweatpants should never be worn in public.
Tucci recently told The Wall Street Journal that people wear sweatpants just because they “don’t want to wear pants” — and to that, Barrymore said, “Yeah! That’s right.”
Mathews then turned to Barrymore, telling her that he’s “never seen her outside of [The Drew Barrymore Show] not in sweatpants.” The actress confirmed that it’s “all” she wears — even under dresses. However, Mathews did have one bone to pick with Barrymore’s choice of fashion.
“I do have to say with Drew — the only thing is most of her sweatpants have big holes in them, too,” he said. “So, we might need to just upgrade the sweats a little bit — just to a brand new pair.”
Anderson, for her part, told Barrymore that she once caught her “patching” her sweatpants on the show.
“I do sew them up when they get their holes in them because I wear them until they’re so thin that they split apart and then I sew them back shut,” Barrymore explained, before adding, “Alright, maybe, Tucci, you have a point.”

This isn’t the first time Barrymore has discussed her sweatpants on The Drew Barrymore Show. During a March episode, she admitted that she even wears them on dates so her potential suitors get to know the real her right up front.
“In fact, all my friends get on my case because I wear my sweatpants on a date. They’re like, ‘Dude, put some effort and shop.’ I’m like, ‘No, I want to be me,'” Barrymore said. “I definitely get dressed up at work, if they want to know what I look like dressed up. We’ll get dressed up at a certain point but I’d rather put my honest, truest, most authentic foot forward.”
But Mathews wasn’t having it. He told her, “You can put an authentic foot forward, but you can do it out of sweats, dear. You can do it in a jean. What? Am I crazy? Sweats on a date? No!”
