Rory McIlroy’s eventful week off the course came with an impressive Thursday on it.
The golfer, who was in the news for his divorce reversal, finished his first round tied for the U.S. Open lead after an impressive bogey-free 18 holes at Pinehurst No. 2.
He’ll enter Friday’s second round tied with Patrick Cantlay with a 5-under 65.
McIlroy’s week got off to a loud start when it was revealed that he had a change of heart, scrapping plans to divorce his wife Erica Stoll.

That came just one month after McIlroy filed to end the marriage, which was called “irretrievably broken” in the filings.
He secured his place at the top with a birdie putt on the par-4 18th hole, closing out a 32 on the back 9.
McIlroy is looking for his first major win in a decade and his first U.S. Open victory since he took it home in 2011.
