The Jets essentially just swiped a draft pick from the Giants.

Rookie cornerback Korie Black — who made the Giants’ initial 53-man roster this week but was cut Wednesday with the intention of bringing him back to the practice squad after he cleared waivers — instead is signing with the Jets practice squad, The Post has learned.

Black was a seventh-round pick of the Giants and expected to play a key role on special teams while providing depth at arguably the shallowest position on the roster.

So, his fair-game decision to cross sides of the state likely won’t sit well in the front office.

The Giants waived Black to make room for Rico Payton — a cornerback and special teamer who was waived/injured by the Saints.

It is customary for injured players to pass through waivers and revert to the practice squad but the Giants pounced after eyeing Payton for more than a year.

Because Payton’s injury is supposed to shut him down for weeks at a time, the Giants could have quickly moved him to injured reserve and re-opened a spot for Black.

They are expected to handle veteran Gunner Olszewski’s cut in a similarly procedural way where the understanding is that he is never truly going anywhere.

But Black was a free agent once he cleared waivers.

And this is the cost of proximity as the Jets coaches and scouts had an up-close look at Black during two days of Giants-Jets practices and a preseason game.

With the Jets, Black fills the practice-squad spot that had been earmarked for Jarrick Bernard-Converse, who was claimed off waivers by the Browns.

The Jaguars also put in a claim for Bernard-Converse, a former sixth-round pick.

The Jets are carrying five cornerbacks on their 53-man roster.

Black will become the first of general manager Joe Schoen’s 31 draft picks not to appear in a game for the Giants.
