NextImg:Rookie Bo Nix makes case for Broncos’ starting QB job with stellar preseason debut

If first impressions are to be believed, this could be the start of something special for Bo Nix.

The Denver Broncos’ 12th overall pick came entered Sunday’s preseason game against the Indianapolis Colts and helped his team score on four of five possessions he took part in.

The former Oregon Duck completed 15 of 21 passing for 125 yards and a touchdown, which came in the second quarter with 4:51 left on the clock off a short pass to Marvin Mims Jr.

The University of Oregon product was put into the game late in the first quarter, replacing starter Jarrett Stidham with 3:11 left in the opening quarter.

“Overall it felt good to get out there and throw some completions … just get out there and compete,” Nix said, according to ESPN.

On his first drive, the rookie QB took the Broncos down the field 45 yards on 11 plays, which included a fumbled snap and a 22-yard pass to Courtland Sutton.

The touchdown pass to Mims came on Nix’s second drive when he marched down the field 56 yards.

The performance has certainly gotten tongues wagging over the idea of Nix pushing for the starter job in the Mile High City.

Head coach Sean Payton praised all three of his quarterbacks – former Jet Zach Wilson also got into the game – after the win over Indy.

“All three of those guys did a good job,” Payton said. “There’s certain settings you get a little bit more information on. … I’m going to go past the quarterbacks, all these guys, you get a little more insight.”

Nix also showed off the mobility he possesses, rushing for 17 yards during the game.

“Good to train it and it’s a nice thing to have,” Nix said of his mobility.

Payton had told reporters previously that Nix would get the start next Sunday against the Green Bay Packers.
