PHILADELPHIA — The road portion of the Mets’ season concluded Sunday with a resounding thud.

Beneficiaries were the Phillies, who remain positioned nicely to clinch the top National League wild-card berth.

The Mets’ run of playing admirably against postseason contenders concluded by getting swept in four games at Citizens Bank Park, including Sunday’s 5-2 loss.

The Mets finished 32-49 on the road this season.

Their record at Citi Field — where they still have six games remaining against the Marlins and Phillies — is 39-36.

“We competed with them, but not enough to get over the top,” manager Buck Showalter said of the Phillies. “It’s disappointing more for the teams that are trying to catch them, including at this point for us, too.”

The Mets’ list of highlights on this day started and ended with Ronny Mauricio’s two-run homer in the sixth inning.

It was the second career homer for the rookie, who slumped on the road trip after a solid two-week stretch to begin his Mets career.

Jose Butto, in his roughest outing of the season for the Mets, allowed four earned runs on four hits with two walks and five strikeouts over four innings.

He was removed after 86 pitches.

Butto had allowed two earned runs or fewer and lasted at least five innings in each of his previous three starts since his recall from Triple-A Syracuse.

“I think in the other games, I was able to attack the hitters and get out in front of them,” Butto said through an interpreter. “The difference today was they were able to foul off a lot of pitches. They got me into my pitch count and I was falling behind a lot. That’s why it didn’t go as well as the other outing.”

J.T. Realmuto’s two-run single in the fourth against Butto accounted for the game’s initial scoring.

Bryce Harper walked leading off the inning and Bryson Stott singled before stealing second base.

Realmuto then delivered before Nick Castellanos’ two-run homer buried the Mets in a 4-0 hole.

Harper’s RBI single in the fifth against Grant Hartwig extended the Phillies’ lead to 5-0.

Trea Turner’s double started the rally.

Tim Locastro singled in the sixth against lefty Cristopher Sanchez before Mauricio cleared the left-field fence — on a pitch near his ankles — for his first right-handed homer in a major league game.

Mauricio hit a left-handed homer Sept. 12 at Citi Field.

“I was looking back at some of the home runs he hit in the spring, a lot of them were on balls,” Showalter said. “I think he is learning some things about that. … It’s a tough thing to get across to young players, especially ones that have power like him.”
