Former NFL standout turned analyst Robert Griffin III is taking heat for a comment he made during the LSU-Ole Miss game Saturday.
Griffin III was on color commentary during the high-profile college football affair, which ended in a 55-49 Ole Miss victory, when making a reference to Jesus while analyzing a play where LSU quarterback Jayden Daniels was sacked by multiple defenders.
“They lifted that man up to the sky like he was Jesus, letting him know they were gonna put him on the cross right there,” joked Griffin III, a devout Christian.
Griffin III received some criticism on X, formerly known as Twitter, for the remark.
Griffin III joined the ESPN roster two years ago and has been utilized on both the NFL and college football side of content.
The game itself between LSU and Ole Miss was a thriller.
In the fourth quarter alone — of which LSU entered with a 42-40 lead — the team’s combined for 28 points, though most of them belonged to Ole Miss.
LSU extended its lead to 49-40 until Ole Miss cut the lead to two with five minutes remaining.
Runnin’ Rebels quarterback Jaxson Dart later connected with receiver Tre Harris on a 13-yard go-ahead touchdown pass with 39 seconds left and the two-point conversion made it 55-49.
LSU marched down the field and positioned itself in near the red zone with a chance to tie and potentially retake the lead, but the Tigers were ultimately denied as Ole Miss secured the home victory.
