Rob Gronkowski’s mom, Diane, stole the show when she spanked him with a green spatula during his Wednesday appearance on “Up & Adams.”
It all started when the studio analyst for “Fox NFL Sunday,” who appears weekly on the FanDuel TV show, shouted out his mom for her birthday. Host Kay Adams then asked her to reenact how she gave Gronkowski “a licken” with a green plastic spatula when he was a kid.
“A lot of it was just that he never stopped,” Diane said when Adams asked what he did to earn a smacking. “He always had to be the entertainer, and he wouldn’t stop. I’m like, ‘I’m exhausted, just stop.'”
“The thing is, he got to the point where he got so much bigger than me that he just laughed at me so the green spoon didn’t [work]… It was big at the time as they grew they just laughed at me when I tried to spank them.”
The four-time Super Bowl champion joked, “That’s why I couldn’t feel the hits in the NFL because my mom got me ready.”
The “Up & Adams” account posted a clip of the moment on X, writing, “Gronk Spike is OUT. Gronk Spank… is IN?” with a crying-laughing emoji.

Adams reposted the video, writing, “Gronk just got spanked by his mom on @UpAndAdamsShow.”
“Happy Birthday to Gronk’s mom,” she added.
Gronkowski, who retired from the NFL in 2022, praised his mom for raising him and his five brothers, and explained that he got her a “bucket list item” for her birthday gift.
“She always talked about how she wants to fly first class,” Gronkowski said. “Now let me tell you, she has flown private plenty of times before, but she has never flown first class. So I made it a first-class birthday for her and I got her two first-class tickets to kind of wherever she wants to go.
“But I told her she has to go to New York City for Christmas to enjoy the lights and all the snow.”
