


Donald Sutherland, the prolific actor best known for his roles in Klute and The Hunger Games series, died on Thursday (June 20). He was 88.
His son, actor Kiefer Sutherland, confirmed the news in a statement shared on social media.
“With a heavy heart, I tell you that my father, Donald Sutherland, has passed away. I personally think one of the most important actors in the history of film,” he wrote.
Kiefer added, “Never daunted by a role, good, bad or ugly. He loved what he did and did what he loved, and one can never ask for more than that. A life well lived.”
Deadline reports the actor passed away in Miami after a long, unspecified illness.
Donald received an honorary Oscar in 2017 for his prolific career in film and television.
Best known for his work opposite Jane Fonda in Klute, the actor also went on to appear in MASH, Don’t Look Now, The Avengers, and more.
Most recently, Sutherland starred in the Paramount+ mini series Lawmen: Bass Reeves.

Sutherland is survived by his wife Francine Racette and their five children.
