Lisa Barlow introduced The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City fans to Bronwyn Newport at the beginning of Season 5. But their friendship quickly unraveled when Newport felt that Barlow wasn’t being a good friend to her on several different occasions. In an exclusive clip from tonight’s reunion episode, obtained by DECIDER, Newport reveals whether there’s a “path forward” for her friendship with Barlow.
The clip starts with moderator Andy Cohen asking Newport whether her daughter Gwen had decided to pursue a relationship with her biological father’s family.
In case you missed it, Newport conceived Gwen when she was a student at Brigham Young University. Gwen’s father was not involved in her life and died shortly before she turned 2 years old — and his family showed no interest in getting to know her afterward. When Barlow realized that she coincidentally knew Gwen’s father and his family, she tried to facilitate a meeting, which didn’t end up happening as Gwen was not ready to meet them.
“That’s in Gwen’s court now. Lisa gave us the information when this all came up and Gwen has that and Gwen’s 18 and she wants to handle it the way she wants to,” Newport explains in the clip. “My take with Gwen is always that I don’t share any detail other than I want her to make the choice that’s best for her and I’ll support it.”
“I feel like I’ve done everything I can do to make this better between the two of them,” she continues. “I’ve given Gwen 18 years of nothing but positive things to say about her dad and his family and she’s got to handle it the way she wants to from here on out.”
However, the true “million dollar question” is whether Barlow and Newport will be able to repair their friendship after such a bumpy season. Their feud started during the cast trip to Palm Springs when Barlow made comments about Heather Gay‘s absence after Newport decided not to invite her on the trip. Things only got worse when Barlow called Gay in front of Newport, who felt as though her longtime friend was taking sides.
Tensions continued into their trip to Mexico when Newport was hurt that Barlow put her in a bungalow with Whitney Rose and Britani Bateman instead of her.
“I still feel like you are saying, ‘There’s hurt on both sides. I see where they’re coming from,'” Newport tells Barlow in the clip. “You have to see how that will change our relationship if there is almost nothing you can see from my vantage point. I don’t know how I could be friends with someone and not even be able to sympathize with what they’re telling me in such a personal, such a deeply hurtful situation. “
But an emotional Barlow promises she has “understanding” for Newport’s feelings.
“I’m so sorry that I fuck up on the daily and it affected you. I am so sorry,” she says through tears, before seemingly referring to Gwen’s paternal grandparents and adding, “I feel bad for them too because this is a horrible situation for everybody.”
